Good news Chandler and East Valley residents! The partially constructed building south of the Chandler Fashion Center, known as Elevation Chandler, has finally had it ownership settled by the courts. That means that owners can start looking for a buyer. My guess is that once it is sold, the new owners will have to tear down the existing building and start over from scratch. What would you like to see go in there? Apartments? Office Building? a Hotel? Hopefully, they won’t put any more store fronts – there are already a bunch of vacant ones back by the Costco. For more information – read the article from the Chandler Republic Property near mall finally has owner. TweetFacebookLinkedInTumblrStumbleDiggDelicious

National Public Gardens Day is May 11, 2012. You can get free admission to the Desert Botanical Garden and the Spring Buttefly Exhibit with a coupon in the Better Homes & Gardens Magazine issue available May 1 or download coupon. The Garden is open from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.. The Butterfly Pavilion is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.. The picture here is one we took at the Garden in March. There were lots of cactus in bloom, the butterfly exhibit was beautiful, and there were plenty of birds to see. I expect it should be just a nice on May 11 but probably a warmer day. If you aren’t going to be in Phoenix on May 11, check to see if the coupon will be good for a public garden in your area. TweetFacebookLinkedInTumblrStumbleDiggDelicious

There are a lot of birds visiting and living at the Gilbert Riparian Preserve. We enjoyed a walk through the preserve on March 30 and saw quite a variety of birds. Here is what we saw: Anna’s Hummingbird, Black-chinned Hummingbird, Greater Egret, Snowy Egret, American Coot, Canada Goose, Mallard, White-crowned Sparrow, Curve-billed Thrasher, Neotropic Cormorant, Black-necked Stilt, Verdin, Green Heron, Mourning Dove, Inca Dove, Northern Shoveler, Grebe Sp., Great Blue Heron, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Killdeer, Gambel’s Quill, Sandpiper Sp., Cinnamon Teal, American Avocet, Spipe. We also think we saw a Red Tailed Hawk but it was pretty far away and difficult to make a clear identification. We also saw lots of cottontail rabbits and a turtle. Consider visiting downtown Glendale with its Glendale Glitters with special programs on Friday and Saturday evenings. It will be aglow with 1.5 million sparkling holiday lights, and Murphy Park will be filled with entertainment, arts and crafts, delicious food and horse-drawn carriage rides. Each weekend has a special theme with all kinds of fun for all ages. Glendale Glitters is aglow every evening from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. through January 14. Another place to see lights is Zoolights at the Phoenix Zoo. This runs nightly through January 9, 2011 from 6:00pm to 10:00pm.

If you enjoy looking at holiday lights and displays, then this map is for you. Courtesy of the Arizona Republic – Holiday Lights Map. The entire Phoenix area is included on the map. You can zoom in on your city or area to locate neighbors with a holiday lights display in your area.

Tickets cost $10.00 per person for Sunday through Thursday nights and $12.00 on Friday and Saturday. There is a discount for Zoo members. Kids age 2 and younger are free. Fry’s has discounted tickets for sale.

One of our favorites is Las Noches de las Luminarias at the Desert Botanical Garden. Stroll through the garden which is lit by lights and luminarias. Stop at the many different spots to listen to musical performances. There is place to get refreshments. I do recommend that you purchase tickets in advance as some nights sell out. You can purchase tickets on-line. This event is mostly attended by adults. However, if you have a child or teenager who enjoys sitting quietly and listening to music, they will enjoy it too.

Downtown Tempe is hosting the Fantasy of Lights in the Mill Avenue district. From November 27 to December 10, you can enter their Window Wonderland contest for a chance to win a $250 shopping spree.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has a beautiful lights display at the Arizona Temple in Mesa. This runs from 5:30pm to 10:00 pm daily and is free. There is usually a half-hour outdoor concert at 7:00 pm. The Temple is located at 525 E Main St in Mesa.

Consider visiting downtown Glendale with its Glendale Glitters programs on Friday and Saturday evenings (6pm to 10pm), Dec. 3-18. It will be aglow with 1.5 million sparkling holiday lights, and Murphy Park will be filled with entertainment, arts and crafts, delicious food and horse-drawn carriage rides. Each weekend has a special theme with all kinds of fun for all ages. Another place to see lights is Zoolights at the Phoenix Zoo. This runs nightly through January 9, 2011 from 6:00pm to 10:00pm. Tickets cost $10.00 per person for Sunday through Thursday nights and $12.00 on Friday and Saturday. There is a discount for Zoo members. Kids age 2 and younger are free. Fry’s has discounted tickets for sale.

4. Chandler Environmental Education Center- The Center is located at Veterans Oasis Park. It offers programs for adults and children including Meet the Creature, Dragons and Butterflies, and Organic Gardening.

5. The Zelma Basha Salmeri Gallery of Western American and Native American Art - The Gallery is located in Basha’s headquarters at 22402 S.
6. Paseo Trail- This is a 6.5 mile trail that runs along the sides of the Consolidated Canal. One side is paved for pedestrian use (running and walking) and the other side is a dirt surface that can be used for horseback riding or biking.
